Understanding IBPS RRB Clerk Prelims Cut-off

The cut-off is the minimum marks that a candidate has to obtain to be selected for the next stage i.e. the main exam. It varies state-wise and depends on the following factors:

Number of vacancies: More vacancies mean that the cut-off can be lower, as more candidates get a chance.

Difficulty level of the exam: If the exam is difficult, the cut-off can be lower as candidates are less likely to score high marks. This time the exam has been conducted in 4 days and the exam was conducted in about 3 to 4 shifts every day, so in some shifts the exam was easy and in some shifts the exam was moderate, so normalization is done in banking exams so that everyone is fair.

Number of candidates: If the number of candidates is high, the competition increases, due to which the cut-off can be high.

Category wise cut-off: The cut-off is different for different categories like General, OBC, SC, and ST. The cut-off for reserved categories is usually lower.

Sectional Timing: This time IBPS has implemented section timing in the exam, so this time it is expected that the cut-off will be lower than the previous exam.
